First introduced in 1979 , the Boxy 100 ballpoint pen has been a favorite choice of generations of Japanese students (similar to the Bic pen in France).

It is distinguished by its unique flat-sided shape , its top push button which extends the tip and remains down when pressed , and its side push button which retracts the tip and releases the top button .

Not only does this ingenious design offer a unique and comfortable writing experience , but it also allows you to have fun with a nostalgic little game :
Japanese students used race car-shaped erasers , which they placed against the retracted upper push buttons , then propelled them by pressing the orange side buttons on the pens .

To refill the pen: use a thin object to push the orange side button all the way in , pull the top push button , replace the refill , then reassemble the pen .
