A lovely folding pruning saw for small cutting jobs around the garden, with a specially shaped beech handle and a simple locking device to hold the blade in place.

The "Ibara-me" teeth (for soft wood) are angled to cut with the grain , giving a very fast and efficient action.

They are made by Shirai-san , a 3-generation saw maker who has been making saws for woodworking and gardening for 45 years.

Directions for use

- Japanese pruning saws are excellent. They cut by pulling, not pushing , which means the blade is under less pressure when cutting and uses less energy , resulting in a much cleaner and faster cut.

- They cut green wood easily, but the blades are more fragile than traditional Western saws and improper use can result in damage.

- Saw gently, making the cut by pulling and sliding backwards . Be careful not to force it so as not to twist the blade, which is flexible.

- Do not use a small saw for a big job . Consider 1/3 of the blade length as the absolute maximum sensitive cutting diameter (6cm with this saw).

At the end of the 90s, while he was still a sculpture student in London, Jake Hobson discovered the art of pruning plants in Japan: Niwaki (literally "garden tree"). He trained there and developed his own vision, combining Japanese tradition and European topiary art. Understanding the importance of the relationship between the gardener and his shears, he decided to meet the craftsmen who made them. The desire to distribute these unique tools in Europe pushed him to found his brand; Niwaki was born!
